Aluminum & Screen Enclosure FAQs

Have questions about aluminum and screen enclosures? Below, we’ve answered some of the most common questions about Harmon's Services’ aluminum and screen enclosures to help you make an informed, confident decision for your home.

  • What types of screen roof systems do you offer?

We offer multiple screen roof configurations designed to match the size, span, and structural requirements of each enclosure. Roof styles and framing are selected based on load requirements, local building codes, and long-term durability to ensure proper performance.

  • How do you determine which screen roof system is right for my enclosure?

Each project is evaluated individually. Factors such as enclosure size, span length, wind load requirements, and overall layout are considered to ensure the structure meets code and performs properly over time.

  • What are ceiling fan beams, and when are they needed?

Ceiling fan beams are reinforced structural members used in larger enclosures or areas where additional support is required. They are commonly needed when installing ceiling fans or when spanning wider openings that require additional strength.

  • Can I install a ceiling fan or lighting in my enclosure?

Yes, ceiling fans and lighting can be installed if the enclosure is properly designed to support them. However, all electrical work must be completed by a licensed electrician.

  • Is electrical work included with aluminum and screen installations?

No. Electrical work—including wiring for ceiling fans or lighting—is not included unless specifically stated in the contract. All electrical work must be handled by a licensed electrician.

  • How do I clean my aluminum and screens?

To maintain your enclosure and extend its lifespan:

    • Avoid harsh chemicals such as chlorine, acid, or abrasive cleaners, as they can cause premature corrosion and rust on fasteners.
    • Use pH-neutral cleaners such as aluminum siding cleaner, Simple Green, or Dawn dish soap.
    • Clean using a soft bristle brush or rag. Do not use stiff brushes or abrasive pads, as they can scratch the aluminum finish.

For larger enclosures, many homeowners choose to hire a professional washing company.

Important: Pressure washing can damage older screens and remove aluminum paint if not done correctly. Consult a professional washing company to determine whether soft washing or pressure washing is appropriate for your enclosure.

  • What is the lifespan of my screen?

Screen lifespan depends on the material type and environmental exposure.

    • Fiberglass Screen: Approximately 7–10 years
    • Polyester Screen: 21+ years

Factors such as sun exposure, wind, and weather conditions can significantly affect overall lifespan. Enclosures with heavy sun and wind exposure may experience reduced longevity.

  • What warranty is included with aluminum and screen installations?

All aluminum and screen installations include a 1-Year Workmanship Warranty.

This warranty covers verified installation-related issues, including:

    • Improper fastening
    • Faulty screen door hardware
    • Screen doors not closing properly
    • Leaks related to super gutters or aluminum roof systems
    • Other confirmed workmanship defects

If an issue is determined to be workmanship-related, repairs will be completed at no cost during the warranty period.

  • What is not covered under the workmanship warranty?

The following items are not covered:

    • Storm-related damage (hurricanes, hail, high winds)
    • Acts of God or severe weather events
    • Normal wear and aging
    • Damage caused by foot traffic, other contractors, or homeowner modifications
    • New modifications made after installation

Note: No warranty is provided on round spline repairs.
